About Korea Glow Notes

Korea Glow Notes is an independent English-language guide to Korean beauty bestsellers, written for shoppers outside Korea who don't have access to the local review platforms Koreans actually read. Every review combines three things: product facts (price, ingredients, retailer, format), an aggregate of how Koreans rate the product across Olive Young, Daiso, and Glowpick, and a 2-minute verdict that says who the product suits and who should skip it.

Why we exist

When a Korean shopper decides between two moisturizers, they cross-check ratings and reviews on Olive Young Korea, Glowpick, and sometimes Daiso. Those platforms are in Korean, gate reviews behind logins, and are not indexed by Google. For overseas shoppers this creates a real information gap: viral TikTok picks dominate global feeds while the products Koreans repeat-buy often don't get English coverage at all. We close that gap by aggregating what Korean shoppers say and translating it into scannable English.

Who runs the site

Korea Glow Notes is run by a single Korea-based editor, Yonghwan, who has been buying K-beauty products at Olive Young and Daiso for over a decade and reading Korean review platforms daily. Editorial decisions — which products to cover, which claims are safe to make, which sources to weight — are made by a human, not by a model. The site is bootstrapped, does not accept sponsored reviews, and does not receive free product samples from brands.

Where our data comes from

All ratings are attributed to the platform they came from ("4.7★ on Olive Young from 3,600 reviews" rather than a blended number without provenance). If a source disagrees with another — for example, Glowpick weaker than Olive Young — we flag the disagreement in the review rather than smoothing it over.

How we work

We publish a small number of new reviews each day. A large language model is used to draft the summary and verdict from the collected data, and each draft passes a factual-consistency check (numbers, ingredients, percentages, prices) against the source data before it goes live. Reviews are updated as ratings and prices shift; retired products are marked as such rather than deleted. Anything we're uncertain about — a niche brand with too few reviews, a category where Korean sentiment splits sharply — we skip rather than fill with filler.
